director Grace Julia is one of Australia’s emerging talents

A triple threat, she is also an award-winning producer and bourgeoning screenwriter, who was recently awarded Screen Australia and Screen Queensland funding for a comedy series that she wrote, directed and produced.

“As an female filmmaker, I love to tell women-centred stories. As a woman in film and television, a person living with disability and as someone from a CALD background, my priorities are inclusivity and diversity in casting, crewing and storytelling in all my projects. I also put a great deal of emphasis on ensuring gender equity on my sets. Most of my body of work seen me work with talented female and non-binary creatives, actors and influencers, and I look forward to continuing to contribute to the changing face of our industry. What I bring to the table as a female director is the ability to lead a logistically complex, large-scale film production with confidence, while also being adept at conduct intimate interviews exploring emotionally challenging subjects. By having the capacity to be as vulnerable as I am steadfast, I’ve quickly become known for making documentary subjects feel at ease, even when they’ve never even been on camera before!”

While Grace lives in Queensland, she regularly travels to Sydney where she works as a local freelance commercial and narrative director.
