Grace Julia’s directorial approach is unapologetically bold

Pairing striking visual choices with emotive performances, Grace prioritises authentic storytelling, has an innate ability to approach complex subjects with sensitivity, and relishes any opportunity to inject her sense of humour on screen.Grace’s career began in production. Notably, she produced Adele, which was awarded Best Live Action Short at Sydney Film Festival in 2017, amongst many other accolades. Following this success, she set her sights on directing. Quickly recognised for her unique visual style, Grace directed her first national TVC in 2020. The same year, her fashion film Brutal was selected for the Melbourne Fashion Film Awards and received widespread press.

After relocating to Sydney to attend the prestigious Australian Film Television and Radio School, Grace has directed several narrative projects, including Contrition, which premiered as part of Sydney Underground Film Festival’s Homebaked Shorts program, and a number of comedy web series in collaboration with writer Nikki Brown. Grace has since returned to Queensland, and now enjoys the flexibility of working as a freelance commercial and narrative director in both states, and in 2025, she was awarded funding by Screen Australia and Screen Queensland to direct Run Club, a dark comedy series set in Brisbane.

As a female filmmaker living with disability and the proud daughter of a Hungarian refugee, Grace is a fierce advocate for diverse and inclusive media representation and looks forward to continuing to contribute to the industry’s changing landscape.
